    The Rights & Needs of Children
    On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:
  • Develop and define a concept of the Basic Rights of a Child.
  • Analyse the Basic Needs of a Child.

    Minimum Standards of Early Development
    On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:
  • Demonstrate and apply a knowledge of minimum standards for Early Childhood Development (ECD) to the design of a child care facility.

    OFSTED Guidelines
    On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:
  • Analyse OFSTED requirements to identify problem areas.
  • Apply OFSTED criteria to devise a check list of minimum requirements for becoming a registered child day care centre.
  • Develop a ground plan of a potential child day care centre.

    Administrative Matters
    On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:
  • Devise forms to enable and organise the administration of a child day care centre with due regard to legal requirements.

    Programmes and Activities
    On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:
  • Explore how the rights and needs of children influence the design of a weekly programme for a child day centre.

    Health Care
    On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:
  • Investigate and evaluate First Aid courses in the area.
  • Raise awareness of First Aid procedures and practice in the organisation.

    Nutrition
    On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:
  • Devise a sample weekly menu to demonstrate an understanding of the nutritional requirements of pre-school children.

    Quality Assurance
    On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:
  • Develop checklists to monitor health and safety aspects of child care.

    Baby Sitting Services
    On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of the checking procedures necessary in order to ensure that babysitters are safe to work with children.

    Parental Inspections
    On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:
  • Summarise the requirements of a parent or guardian placing a child in day care.

    All students will receive a certificate in the mail on successful completion of their course.

    Prerequisites/Audience There is no experience or previous qualifications required for enrolment on this course. It is available to all students, of all academic backgrounds.
    Requirements/Materials Included This program can be accessed and completed using either PC or Macintosh computers. You'll need an Internet connection of 28Kpbs or higher, and a Web browser. There are no required textbooks.
